11. Which Internet utility will you use to have a live conversation (usually typed) on the Internet? Could you explain the procedure of its usage?

Commonly known as "function keys", F1 through F12 may have a variety of different uses or no use at all. Depending on the installed operating system and the software program currently open will change how each of these keys operate. A program is capable of not only using each of the function keys, but also combining the function keys with the ALT or CTRL key, for example, Microsoft Windows users can press ALT + F4 to close the program currently active. F1 Almost always used as the help key, almost every program will open the help screen when this key is pressed. F2 In Windows commonly used to rename a highlighted icon or file.

A basic, but important concept to understand when using a computer is cut, copy and paste. These actions will allow you to easily copy or move data between one application and another or copy and move files and directories from one location to another. More importantly, once you understand these fundamentals, you'll find that they will apply across the board for most of your computer based applications.

12. What are input devices? Could you characterize the most used of them?

An input device is any hardware device that sends data to the computer, without any input devices, a computer would only be a display device and not allow users to interact with it, much like a TV. In the picture to the right, is a Logitech trackball mouse and an example of an input device. Below is a complete listing of all the different computer input devices that can be used on a computer.

Barcode reader MIDI keyboard

Digital camera Mouse (pointing device)

Gamepad Remote

Joystick Scanner

Keyboard Webcam

Microphone

13. What is the difference between editing keys and functional ones?

14. What actions can be performed with the help of a mouse? Support your answer with examples.

Mouse is a pointing device that functions by detecting two-dimensional motion relative to its supporting surface. The mouse's motion typically translates into the motion of a cursor on a display, which allows for fine control of a graphical user interface.

A mouse typically controls the motion of a cursor in two dimensions in a graphical user interface (GUI). Clicking can select files, programs or actions from a list of names, or (in graphical interfaces) through small images called "icons" and other elements. For example, a text file might be represented by a picture of a paper notebook, and clicking while the cursor hovers this icon might cause a text editing program to open the file in a window.

15. What is a Web browser and what is it used for?

A web browser is a software application for retrieving, presenting, and traversing information resources on the World Wide Web. An information resource is identified by a Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) and may be a web page, image, video, or other piece of content.[1] Hyperlinks present in resources enable users easily to navigate their browsers to related resources. A web browser can also be defined as an application software or program designed to enable users to access, retrieve and view documents and other resources on the Internet.

Although browsers are primarily intended to access the World Wide Web, they can also be used to access information provided by web servers in private networks or files in file systems.

The major web browsers are Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari, and Opera.

16. What is the difference between the Internet and the Web?

The Internet is the large container, and the Web is a part within the container. It is common in daily conversation to abbreviate them as the "Net" and the "Web", and then swap the words interchangeably. But to be technically precise, the Net is the restaurant, and the Web is the most popular dish on the menu

17. What is a computer application? What are two general classes of application software, give their brief characteristics.

Application software is computer software designed to help the user perform a particular task. Such programs are also called software applications, applications or apps. Typical examples are word processors, spreadsheets, media players and database applications

Application software is contrasted with system software and middleware, which manage and integrate a computer's capabilities, but typically do not directly apply them in the performance of tasks that benefit the user. The system software serves the application, which in turn serves the user.

Application software applies the power of a particular computing platform or system software to a particular purpose. Some apps such as Microsoft Office are available in versions for several different platforms; others have narrower requirements and are thus called, for example, a Geography application for Windows or an Android application for education or Linux gaming.

Media Development software : This is type of application software that is generally used extensively in print media. With the help of this software the media people who want to show their ideas to other people. It gives an edge over the ones which do not make use of media development software.

The different types of media developments software are HTML, Multimedia development media, desktop publishing popularly named as DTP, graphic art and many others. The media development software is also used a lot in the entertainment section. The video editing software and the sound editing software both are a part of media development software.

Product Engineering Software : This computer application is used to develop products for hardware and software. One of the popular examples of product engineering software in the market is Computer aided design which is referred as CAD. CAD is used by one and all for making correct drawings and it gives you flexibility in this. CAD is basically used for giving us 2D and 3D views of it.

Other Popular product engineering software is CAE (computer aided engineering), IDE (Integrated Development environment) and API (Application Programming Interface). Computer language, compiler software, debuggers are all a part of the product engineering.

By now you must have had a clue about what is computer application software and what are the uses of it. You will realize how often we use these software applications. It’s almost everyday, in one way or the other.
