Часть V Интонация незаконченных частей высказывания

Незаконченные части высказывания, в частности, перечисления, развернутые обстоятельства места и времени, стоящие в начале предложения, обычно произносятся с низким восходящим кинетическим тоном, так как основное значение, которое выражает этот тон – незаконченность, незавершенность. Пример: We ˏlisten, ˏread and learn `words at our ˈEnglish ˈlessons.

Интонационные упражнения

  1. Прочтите следующие предложения по интонационной разметке.

a) 1. 'Nick has a ˏtable and a ˋsofa in his room.

2. ˈBetsy speaks ˏEnglish and ˋFrench.

3. 'Mary sells ˏjeans and ˋsweaters at the shop.

4. ˈBen plays ˏtennis and ˋfootball.

5. ˈPolly needs ˏbutter and ˋmilk for her ˌcake.

6. ˈMary likes ˏroses and ˋtulips.

b) 1. We ˈstudy ˏEnglish, ˏGerman, ˏFrench and ˋLatin.

2. ˈKate has a ˏdog, a ˏparrot, a ˏrabbit and a little ˋkitten.

3. I’m ˈfree on ˏMonday, ˏTuesday, ˏWednesday and ˋFriday.

4. Mike has a comˏputer, a TˏV-set, a CˏD player and a ˋbookcase in his ˌroom.

5. ˈBob is very ˋsporty. He ˈplays ˏhockey, ˏfootball, ˏtennis and ˋbaseball.

c) 1. There is a ˈbig round ˏtable, ˈfour ˏchairs, a ˈlarge TˏV-set and a ˈPersian

ˋcarpet in my ˌdining-room.

2. ˈMike has a ˈlittle ˏtorch, a ˈbox of ˏmatches, ˈtwo used ˏtickets, some

ˏchocolates, a ˈcouple of ˏnails and a ˋstring in his ˌpockets.

3. There is a ˈhuge ˏdictionary, some ˏbooks, a ˈfew ˏexercise-books and a

ˋpen on the ˌdesk.

4. ˈBetsy usually ˈmakes some ˈvegetable ˏsalads, ˈfish ˏsandwiches, ˈroasted

ˏmeat and a deˈlicious ˋapple-pie for her ˌguests.

5. There is a ˈbig ancient ˏclock, ˈtwo ˏcandlesticks, some ˏphotographs and

a Chiˈnese ˋvase on the ˌmantelpiece.

6. There is a ˈhuge mug of ˏcoffee, a ˈbig bar of ˏchocolate and some ˋnuts

2. Inˈ front of the ˏhouse they have a ˈbig ˋpool.

3. In the ˈmiddle of the ˏroom I see a ˈbig round ˋtable.

4. ˈEvery other ˏday we ˈplay ˋtennis.

5. Near the hoˏtel we see a ˈbig ˋshop.

6. On ˈSaturday ˏevenings ˈNick and ˈMary go to the ˋcinema.

7. ˈEarly in the ˏmorning ˈKate likes to ˈdrink ˋcoffee.

8. ˈNext to the ˏclock I see a ˈpicture of ˈJack’s ˋfamily.

7. They have classes on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

8. There is a fridge, a cooker, a dishwasher and a few cupboards in the kitchen.

9. Mary usually buys milk, bread, butter, cheese and fruit at the supermarket.

10. Jack has got a father, a mother, two sisters and a brother.

  1. 1. You can buy stamps, envelopes, postcards, newspapers and magazines at the newsagent’s.

2. His grandfather usually watches football matches, films and news programs on TV.

3. We need apples, bananas, oranges, grapes and pears for this fruit salad.

4. She’s married to an American and has three sons and two daughters.

5. There is a swimming pool, a supermarket, a theatre, a cinema and a park in this town.

6. They grow potatoes, cucumbers, tomatoes, cabbage, carrots and garlic in their kitchen garden.

7. Steve wants to visit England, Spain, Japan, Italy, Poland and the USA.

8. These people are very friendly, polite, helpful, hospitable and intelligent.

9. My friend enjoys playing computer games, listening to music, going to the cinema, taking photographs and reading books.

10. Mike wears a dark suit, a blue shirt, a tie and shoes at work.

  1. 1. On the top shelf there are some books, albums, a CD player and Kate’s headphones.

2. In summer we swim, sunbath, play football, ride bicycles, go for walks.

3. In the living room there is a big window and a nice comfortable sofa opposite it.

4. After classes Nick’s brother goes home, has lunch, relaxes to music, does his homework and walks his dog in the park.

5. Every other Saturday Jane visits her grandparents and helps them about the house.

6. On week days my neighbour goes shopping, cooks meals and does the washing up.

7. In our street there are a lot of small shops, a cafe, a museum, a school and a post office.

8. Between the supermarket and the baker’s there is a chemists.
