Употребление: для обозначения действия, которое завершилось до определенного момента в прошлом или раньше другого действия.

By 1984, we had waited seven years for an answer.

Ex. 1 Write the sentences putting one verb in each sentence into the Past Simple, and the other verb into the Past Perfect

Example: When the police (arrive), the car (go).

When the police arrived, the car had gone.

Употребление: для обозначения действия, которое длилось некоторый период в прошлом и закончилось к определенному моменту.

I had been reading a book for two hours, when my husband came.

Ex. 1 Read the situations and write sentences putting words in brackets into the Past Perfect Continuous

Example: I was very tired when I arrived home. I (work) hard all day.

I was very tired when I arrived home. I had been working hard all day.

  1. The two boys came into the house. They had a football and they were both very tired.

2. There was nobody in the room but there was a smell of cigarettes.

3. Ann woke up in the middle of the night. She was frightened and didn’t know where she was.

  1. для обозначения действия, запланированного на будущее;

Примечание: going to также может употребляться в этом случае.

  1. для выражения желания/нежелания сделать что-либо

I promise I’ll be here.

I’ll never speak to him again.

Ex. 1 Write the correct form of going to, shall or will, for this sentences. Sometimes two answers are possible.

Example:

Why is Sheila getting a passport? She ….. live in Spain for a year.

She is going to live in Spain for a year.

I know she ….. (not agree) with this idea. I know she won’t agree with this idea.

I think the film ….. be a big success. I think the film is going to be a big success.

I think the film will be a big success.

  1. ‘I don’t feel very well this morning.’ ‘Oh, dear……I look after the children? For you?’

  2. The managing director…….sack two hundred people next month.

  3. There’s someone at the door. ‘OK, I…..…answer it.’

  4. She…...never see her parents again.

Употребление:

  1. для обозначения процесса, действия, которое будет происходить в определенный момент времени в будущем;

I‘ll be playing football at six.

  1. для обозначения заранее запланированного действия в будущем, а также действия, которое произойдет при обычных обстоятельствах.

Ex. 1 Write the verbs below as the Future Continuous or Future Simple

Example: I (see) them tomorrow. I’ll be seeing them tomorrow.

I (tell) them what you said. I’ll tell them what you said.

(You work) all tomorrow evening? Will you be working all tomorrow evening?

  1. She (stay) in Leeds all weekend.

  2. She (visit) our office next week – I (ask) her then.

  3. I (see) the sales manager at the marketing meeting on Monday and I’m sure he (give) me the figures then.

  4. I (not be able) to lend you the car tomorrow – I (use) it all night.

  5. Next year they (live) in Spain.

  6. This time next week we (sit) on the beach.

  7. The children (stay) with their grandparents for the summer holidays.
