Electronic dictionaries are available in several forms: as software that can be installed in the computer; as CD-ROMs and, most importantly, through the Internet. The search engine Google, for example, gives us access to a huge variety of monolingual and bilingual dictionaries in many languages. Encyclopedia - encyclopedia will not give you as much information as a textbook, but it gives a good basic overview of each subject. Forums helps to translators  to provide an area where members can interact with questions, answers and discussions on a given topic. Portals-help to translators to collaborate with agencies and other translators.

22) Electronic dictionaries.

Even if you know the language from which you are translating, and do not use machine translation systems, then do without a computer dictionary you are unlikely to succeed.

Capabilities of modern PCs to quickly find and storage of huge dictionary databases allow to considerably speed up the search for unfamiliar words than conventional dictionaries.

An electronic dictionary is a dictionary whose data exists in digital form and can be accessed through a number of different media. Electronic dictionaries can be found in several forms, including: as dedicated handheld devices; as apps on smartphonesand tablet computers or computer software; as a function built into anE-reader; as CD-ROMs and DVD-ROMs, typically packaged with a printed dictionary, to be installed on the user’s own computer; as free or paid-for online products.

Most types of dictionary are available in electronic form. These include general-purpose monolingual and bilingual dictionaries, historical dictionaries such as the Oxford English Dictionary, monolingual learner's dictionaries, and specialized dictionaries of every type, such as medical or legal dictionaries, thesauruses, travel dictionaries, dictionaries of idioms, and pronunciation guides.

Electronic dictionary databases, especially those included with software dictionaries are often extensive and can contain up to 500,000 headwords and definitions, verb conjugation tables, and a grammar reference section. Bilingual electronic dictionaries and monolingual dictionaries of inflected languages often include an interactive verb conjugator, and are capable of word stemming and lemmatization.

19) Software equipment of translation process.

Software is much more important than hardware. In fact, what software you’re going to use should determine what computer you buy; not the other way around. If you love Windows, then you’ll buy a PC. If you’re going to do a lot of desktop publishing or multimedia design work, you’ll probably buy a Mac. If you’re using Japanese of Chinese a lot, you’ll get a Mac. If you need to use MAT software, you'll have to have a PC. And there is nothing wrong with having two or more computers.

First, a few general rules about buying software. One, don’t rely exclusively on the reviews you read in magazines. They are written by underpaid, overworked computer geeks who are given five software applications and asked to figure them out. Use reviews to find out what’s out there and how much it costs. Then talk to people who use the software. Try out the software in a store. And when you buy it, do so from a place which has a good exchange policy or money-back guarantee (unless you know you want the package). After a week of using the software, if you don’t like it, return it and get something else.

Two: don’t buy the biggest, most expensive, most powerful, feature-laden package available. Instead, find some modest package and get started with that. You’ll save time, money and frustration. When your ready, you can buy (or for a fraction of the cost, trade up to) the more powerful package. Remember, you’ll be buying software regularly over the years, upgrading your existing packages, and constantly learning how to do new and better things.
