Бессоюзные определительные придаточные предложения

(Asyndeton)

Бессоюзное соединение придаточных определительных предложений представляет одну из трудностей для понимания английского текста, так как в русском языке такие предложения отсутствуют. E.g. The problem of crime prevention the instructor was telling us about is one of the main problems of law enforcement. — Проблема предупреждения преступности, о которой нам рассказывал преподаватель, является одной из главных проблем правоохранения.

Если за двумя рядом стоящими существительными следует глагол в личной форме, второе существительное обычно выступает подлежащим определительного предложения, которое присоединено к главному без союзных слов.

Признак бессоюзной связи: стык двух существительных (или существительное плюс личное местоимение в именительном падеже). Такие придаточные предложения переводятся на русский язык определительным придаточным предложением с союзным словом "который".

Если в конце такого бессоюзного определительного придаточного предложения находится предлог, он относится к подразумеваемому союзному слову (см. пример выше).

Ex. 1. Translate into Russian.

1. The operatives of the CID are the men (who are) to detect criminals.

2. The case (which) the field-criminalist is speaking about was very interesting.

3. The problem (that) the search commander was speaking about was lo detect that dangerous criminal.

4. A number of institutes of the Interior are functioning now (where) future militia workers are getting higher education.

Ex. 2. Translate into Russian paying attention to Asyndeton.

1. The evidence the field-criminalist was examining was of great

importance for the solution of the crime.

2. The way he was doing that was highly effective.

3. Special methods we were interested in at this lecture were different from the methods we were reading about in our books.

4. The cases we are going to prove are of different character.

5. The name of the beat officer the search commander was speaking about was John Clarke.

6. The house the criminal was in was blocked by the police.

7. The scene of the crime we were examining was not far from the centre of the city.

8. The lecturer was speaking of special means, methods and forms (lie detectives are to use in their work.

Ex. 3. The sentences in this exercise are not complete. Complete each one with a relative clause. Use the sentences in the box to make your relative clauses.
