2.3Automatically Deprovision Service after Phone is Permanently Lost
The LPF Server monitors carrier provisioning messages (e.g. “Change ESN”, “End Subscription”, etc.) to determine if a phone previously subscribed to the LPF service is deactivated by the Carrier and/or replaced. When an LPF phone is deprovisioned, the LPF resets the phone’s status so that the LPF website is reset if the same person logs in with a new phone.
3Lost Phone Finder Handset Interface Use Cases
3.1General Notes
The Lost Phone Finder Handset Application, once activated, is designed to severely limit the functions of the phone. It is not a “well behaved” application. Most rules about suspending the application for user interactions are broken. The application stays in the foreground at all costs.
Once the LPF handset app is activated, the only functions allowed are:
Press a button to call the number specified by the owner when the LPF service was activated
Call 911
Enter the LPF unlock code
Receive in-bound calls
Power the phone off/on
3.2Subscribe to lpf Service by Downloading Handset App, Pre-Loss (Pri: Hi)
If the LPF Handset Application is not preloaded on the Owner’s phone, then the service may be activated by downloading the LPF Handset from the Carrier’s application download server as described in this use case.
The Owner discovers the LPF Service, either by responding to marketing messages or by browsing the Carrier’s Mobile Application Catalog.
The Carrier’s Website may provide instructions for downloading the LPF Handset App, including sending an SMS with a link to the LPF Handset App.
The Owner navigates to the LPF Handset Application on the Carrier’s Application Catalog.
The Owner selects and purchases the LPF Handset Application through normal Application Catalog mechanisms. The LPF subscription MRC commences.
The LPF Handset Application awakens and registers with the LPF Server when it is downloaded.
If the registration process is interrupted in any way, the application periodically re-launches itself until it successfully registers with the LPF Server.
The LPF Handset Application displays the LPF Server Website address and the Toll-Free IVR number for the service, and tells the subscriber to make a note of it.
After successful registration, the LPF Server sends an email to the Owner’s registered email address (derived from the Carrier’s subscriber profile database) containing an “LPF welcome package” that includes a link to the LPF Website and the toll-free LPF IVR interface.
3.3Lpf Handset App Launched from Handset by User (Pri: Med)
The Lost Phone Finder application may appear in the phone interface in a manner that allows the subscriber to launch the application. This will not activate the Lost Phone Service. Rather, it will provide a text description of the Lost Phone Finder Service and direct the user to the Lost Phone Finder Service website for more information.
3.4Lpf Handset App Activated by Server Message while Phone Powered-On and In-Coverage (Pri: Hi)
The Lost Phone Finder application is officially activated by an application-directed SMS or tele-service message from the LPF Server. If the phone is powered on and in coverage when the server message is issued, the activation occurs immediately while the Owner is waiting on the server-side website or IVR application.
The activation process sequences the LPF app through the following steps upon receiving the server message:
Display “I’m a lost phone” screen, without displaying to “press any button to call phone owner” instructions.
“Locks” keyboard
Displays “Reporting status”
Calculates device location and delivers it to the LPF server
Loudly rings (as soon as the location reporting process is completed.)
The “Loud Ring” completes one full audio cycle, just if the ring had been separately commanded.
Display backlight flashes from full off to full on during loud ring cycle.
Optionally executes a personal data backup operation (if the capability is enabled on this phone.) This may require the LPF Handset app to communicate with another on-handset backup utility. The inter-application interface is TBD.
Returns to the standard “I’m a lost phone” display, with backlight off, with instructions to “press any button to call phone owner” displayed.
