Identifying and analysing the adverising target
The advertising target is the group of people toward which advertisements are aimed. Identifying and analyzing the advertising target is critical because the other steps in developing the campaign are based on this. A number of research ventures into this area have developed, because companies are becoming more interested in understanding their customers or target markets.
Advertisers analyze advertising targets to develop an information base for a campaign. Necessary information includes the location and geographic distribution of the target groups; the distribution of age, income, sex, race and education; and consumer attitudes to the purchases and use of both the advertiser’s products and competing products.
Generally the more that advertisers know about the advertising target, the more able they are to develop an effective advertising campaign. If the advertising target is not identified and analyzed, the campaign has less chance of success.
Defining the advertising campaign
Advertising objectives stated clearly and precisely. Precision and measurability help advertisers evaluate advertising success – to judge whether or how well the objectives have been accomplished after the end of the campaign. Advertising objectives should contain benchmarks giving the current condition or position of the firm. An advertising objective should also specify the time allotted for its achievement. Thus advertisers know exactly how long they have to accomplish their objective. They also know when they should begin to evaluate the effectiveness of the campaign.
