Unit IV. A man’s home is his castle
Ex. 1. Read and translate the text.
Welcome to Robert Ron Howard
Bob’s parents purchased their home in 1997 in Arch Cape near Portland, Oregon. This home was originally built as a summer cabin. Bob’s parents completely renovated the home inside and outside. Now it is a spacious beach home facing the water.
The main floor has an airy, spacious kitchen and dining room area with a deck adjoining it. There is a lovely view of flowers outside. They are planted by Bob’s mother. The Howards keep a grill, a table and chairs there. On warm days they like relaxing and having dinner outdoor.
On the upper floor, there is a comfortable living room with a gas fireplace, a guest room and a bathroom, a study, a master bedroom, Bob’s bedroom and two full bathrooms.
The lower floor has a family room, two children’s bedrooms and a bathroom. Both bedrooms here are occupied by Bob’s sisters and form their sense of independence. There is a laundry and a storage room in the basement as well.
The home has a generator in case of power outrages, a hot water heater, a stove and a smoke alarms on every level. A two-car garage is attached to the house. Bob’s home has electric base-board heating available, but the house is heated mainly by oil heat. The home is surrounded by a well kept lawn, flower and vegetable gardens and a fenced back yard.
The Howards love their home very much. It’s cozy, sunny and cheerful. They like spending time together. And their guest cottage, which is right behind the house is always occupied by grandparents, other relatives or friends.
Arch Cape is a good place to live and raise children. There are a lot of cultural and sport opportunities here. And it is not far from the city with museums, concerts and shopping centers.
