III. Conversation practice

    1. Scan the vocabulary below. Make sure you know the meaning of the words and word-combinations.

Cultural note:

  • Yakitori: a Japanese dish consisting of pieces of chicken grilled on a skewer.

  • Sashimi: a Japanese dish of slices of raw fish served with grated horseradish and soy sauce.

  • Sushi: a Japanese dish consisting of rolls of cold boiled rice flavoured with vinegar and garnished with raw fish.

  • Teriyaki: a Japanese dish consisting of fish or meat marinated in soy sauce and grilled.

  • Tofu: (Japanese) a curd made from mashed soya beans; bean curd.

  • Agedashi tofu: жареный тофу (соевый творог).

  • Sake: A Japanese alcoholic drink made from fermented rice.
