Unicorn Assurance, a large British based company, is currently considering a proposal to introduce a flexitime system for the office and lower managerial staff of their London headquarters. There has been a certain amount of unrest about the proposal, and the Managing Director has asked the Director of Personnel to submit a report commenting on the situation. The report is supposed to state the purpose and scope of changes, explain the stages of the system introduction, financial implications and effect on work performance. It should also describe the existing attitude of the employees to the forthcoming changes.

Regarding the proposal for a touring promotional show sent to me on Tuesday, I read it yesterday. When you have corrected the problems I have found in it, I will gladly give it my support at the next divisional meeting, since it has merit. The financing section is sound, except that you failed to include the cost of gas. You should have estimated a cost per mile along with your leasing figures. I also think your marketing section lacks enough detail. Ruth, you should have added more facts.

Other than these problems, the proposal looks fine. By the way, when you do the estimates for the London office renovations, include a breakdown of costs for the Waterloo and Hamilton renovations. They wil help us to make comparisons.

In response to many complaints and the formation of a Safety and Security committee, the Operation Manager requested the Committee to investigate the current problems regarding safety at work. To identify specific sources of complaint the Committee carried out the research which comprised 1) interviews with supervisory and operational personnel; 2) poll of the workers on the questions of safety; 3) study of accident reports covering 1998 and 1999; 4) observation of on-the-job attitudes to safety; 5) study of current theory and practice in safety attitudes and standards. After the research has been completed, the Committee is going to issue a report about the current labor safety situation in the company, analyze the existing drawbacks and recommend the ways of improving situation.
