I’ve been advised by my lecturers from Donetsk State Technical University that you have a vacancy for a position on the Sales Department. I should like to be considered for this position.

The tasks that an employee at the Sales department will carry out are in my field of interest. Moreover, I have gained some experience in the field of sales during my workplacements for the Institute and my private business in retail sales of video and audio cassettes.

I think it important for me to have an adaptation period in your company to learn the aspects of the company operation and the essential of the Sales department work. So I don’t mind being sent to any training courses you may consider necessary.

My diploma with distinction and list of marks enclosed may show you what subjects I have mastered in the University, for the company to use my knowledge for its benefit. Besides, I have a very good command of spoken and written English.

II. Writing and planning

Your company has expanded its activity overseas. There is an urgent necessity to appoint an overseas sales manager who will be responsible for sales of the Company’s products overseas. He has to be informed in detail about all aspects of the Company’s product range and must have some knowledge of their technical capabilities and specifications. The Board needs to be briefed about the state of overseas sales, they need this person to serve existing markets, develop new ones, recruit and train overseas sales staff. This officer’s responsibility will be allocation of the overseas sales budget agreed by the Board annually and keeping adequate records to show how money has been spent. You are the Personnel Manager of the Company and are going to introduce the idea of new appointment at the nearest Board meeting and convince the management to come to a positive decision.
