Eminent teachers
The dominant role in the Academy formation was played by such well-known artists, pedagogues and art critics as Osyp Bokshai, Ivan Severa, Vitold Manastyrskyi, Hryhoryi Smolskyі, Mykola Fediuk, Myron Vendzylovich, Pavlo Zholtovskyi, Emmanuil Mysko, Evhen Lysyk, Yakym Zapasko, Volodymyr Ovsiychuk and others. The function of the Academy is to give specialized training of high degree. The tuition is balanced in the humanities and sciences and arts. The language of instruction is Ukrainian. The Academy is made up of four faculties:
1. the Faculty of Applied and Decorative Arts.
2. the Faculty of Design.
3. the Faculty of Theory and History of Arts.
4. the Faculty of Fine Arts and Restoration.
Lectures, classes and laboratory (studio) works arе organised by the chairs. Some of them are specialized, responsible for training professions. Now at the Academy there are trained sixteen professions in Arts.

VIII. Read and retell the text: Entry
Admission to the Academy is by examinations and selection. Applicants for admission must submit their applications to the Admission Commission. On becoming entrants they must take entrance examinations and selection on interview. Examinations are highly competitive.
If the entrant passes the examinations successfully he is enrolled, as a full-time student, resident or non-resident.
A necessary condition of entry to the Academy is a preliminary course of study, which will fit a candidate for the specialized courses.
The students get state grants (stipends). Extramural students live either at thе Academy hostel or in private lodgings.

X. Read and retell the text: Academy buildings and chairs
The main building of the Academy is in 38, Cubiyovich Street. It houses Administration:
Rector’s and Pro-Rector’s Offices, Manager оf Development, Chief Accountant’s Office, Reception (Secretary), the Academic Library, the Academy Museum, and the Academy Hall, there the sittings of the Academic Board are held.
In the main building there is also the chair of Painting, the chair of the Humanities, the chair of the History and Theory of Art, a few classrooms and a studio.
The laboratory building (in front of the main building) houses the Dean’s Office, specialized chairs and their laboratories, the chair of Art Ceramics, the chair of Art Glass, the chair of Art Clothes Design, the chair of Art Textiles, and the chair of Metal work.
Close by main building the faculty of Interior Design and Outfit is housed. There is the Dean’s Office, the chair of Sculpture, the chair of Interior Design, the chair of Furniture, the chair of Art Wood Carving and the workshops.
In the last years there were opened new professions and new chairs: the chair of Graphics, the chair of Restoration, the chair of Sacral Art. There is also the Minor Academy for tаlеnted children.
The chair of Foreign Languages and Literature is in 30, Crymska Street. It organizes classes in English, German, French, Spanish and Latin languages. It also offers an extended course of the Ukrainian Language and Stylistics. Same students voluntarily learn a second language of their choice.
An Academy graduate is conferred a diploma. According to the New Educational Law the graduate is entitled to the Magister of Art degree. Later he may continue to take the Master’s Degree by theses or research or the Degree of Doctor.
