Сортировочная горка есть на каждой станции, куда прибывают составы из вагонов различного направления следования. На этих станциях вагоны из одного поезда ставятся в другой в зависимости от станции назначения грузов. Для такой сортировки вагонов служит сортировочная горка. Это возвышенное место на станции, к которому ведет несколько путей. Состав надвигают на горку.
