6.1. Scan the text and point out its main parts. Give titles to them.

My research biography

My name is Alexander Petrov. I am a student of Siberian Federal University, the Institute of Space and Information Technology. As an undergraduate I am engaged in research in the field of “Mathematical and software support of computers, systems and networks”. My scientific supervisor is Alexander Ivanovich Zhukov. He is a Doctor of Technical Sciencies and Head of the Neurocomputer chair. I graduated from the faculty of Computer Science and Technology. My major was “Computers, complexes, systems and networks”.

My research biography began at school. At that time I liked lessons of Mathematics, Physics, Astronomy and Computer Science and Technology. I participated in school, district and city competitions in these subjects. I also attended optional classes in Programming during my last year at school. That’s why I decided to enter the Krasnoyarsk State Technical University, the faculty of Computer Science and Technology.

During my study I attended classes of Programming Languages and Software Design. I participated in the university competitions in Programming and even took part in the quarterfinal of the contest conducted by Association for Computing Machinery. When I was a second-year student I paid more attention to research and made reports at the faculty conferences. I have one article in the “Proceedings of the conference Youth and Science: The Beginning of the XXI century” published in 2006. And I have an article in the “Proceedings of the conference Youth and Science: The Beginning of the XXI century” and an article in the “Improvement of Professional Education” published in 2007.

After graduation I decided to continue my education and took a master’s course at the Institute of Space and Information Technology at Siberian Federal University to carry on my research on the theme of my diploma paper. It is “Tool support of dynamic classifiers”. The main purpose was the creation of the system of data processing. The system is necessary for a set of data processing.

At the present different principles are used for data classification, for example: the list, tree or multidimensional cube.

The list is very simple, but it doesn’t give classification methods. And the process of search takes a lot of time.

The tree represents a hierarchical structure. The advantage of this principle is a simple access to the object by its description.

The third principle shows that each object has an identical set of attributes. Objects are divided into groups by values of attributes. This principle allows to take into consideration all possible attributes.

These principles allow users to define a data object model, but there are some problems. There are three primary problems that appear during work:

1) People who work with information search and gathering use both their own terms and terms which are used by different communities in another context. It is the cause of incompatibility of the terms which are used.

2) Classification methods process information by the system of attributes which can’t be taken into account by all the users.

3) Visualization forms of information processing are presented inflexibly. It is not comfortable for users.

That’s why the conflict between the stored data and the user possibilities in information processing appears.

My theme is connected with software development. There is problem of quality of information processing. Information quantity is constantly and tremendously growing. A lot of fields of human activities are connected with tremendous growth of information. That’s why my theme is actual. The more quantitively information is presented in the domain the more accurately the given problem can be solved. Thus implementation of the model suggested by me will contribute to the solution of the problem of information processing quality.

The most important aims of my work are as follows:

1) Creation of the model describing data processing in the terms of the software which is necessary to develop.

2) Creation of the tool which can display data handling.

At the present only the survey of similar systems has been done. The book by T. Buzan and B. Buzan “The Mind Map Book” was read by me. I also have read the book by M. Fontoura, W. Pree and B. Rumpe “The UML Profile for Framework Architectures”. And I consider the books very interesting. Some methods of data processing and tools were considered by the authors. For example, hierarchical, facet, dynamical methods of classification were examined. Rational Rose visual tool was also considered. The examined systems allow to consider the data only from one point of view. On the other hand the system proposed by me will allow to combine some points of view. This is the novelty of my theme.

My system will allow to create terms of the software which is necessary to develop and to define the relationships between the terms. In particular, the proposed system will be useful for the program class diagrams or object diagrams creation. These diagrams are used for framework creation of software. That’s why the software creation process becomes more comfortable and fast. Such system will be useful for the software developers independently from the programming language they use. But the tool which I need to create will be oriented on the Windows operating system. So, it will be useful for the software model creation and the software development in the future.

6.2. Discuss in pairs the main ideas of the student’s research. Share your own opinions on the problem of new software development. Say what skills and knowledge this process demands.

6.3. Give an oral annotation to the student’s research.

6.4. Summarize the whole student’s research biography. Think up its continuation.

6.5. Act out a role play: «Entrance examination for a post graduate study». Perform the role of a student and members of the examination commission. The topic for the conversation is the student’s research. Make up 7-8 questions. Use the expressions from the text.
