Exercise 1. Use the correct form of the verb in brackets.

1. Much money (spend) during their journey.

Exercise 3. Change the following sentences, as in the example.

Exercise 6. Translate into English.

The present continuous passive

Exercise 1. Use the correct form of the verb in brackets.

1. Somebody is using the computer at the moment. The computer (use).

2. They are building a new ring road round the city. A new ring road (build) round the city.

3. There's somebody behind us. I think (we, follow).

4. Look at the door! It (close) right now.

5. The tests (write) by the students now.

6. We (look after) at the moment by our hostess.

7. We are sitting at the table. The tea (serve).

Exercise 4. You are walking. What do you see in the street? Make up sentences describing what is going on now. Use the Present Continuous Passive.

e.g. wash / car – Some car is being washed.

Prompts: repair / road; widen / pavements; change / house numbers; rebuild / town hall; replace / street lights; restore / old church.

Exercise 5. Ask your partner:

where the meeting is being held; what problems are being discussed; what film is being spoken about; if the lock is still being fixed; if the student is still being examined; what the student is being asked about.

Exercise 6. Ask questions beginning with the words in brackets.

1. The tape-recorder is being fixed now. (What?)

2. Some record is being played. (What?)

3. A new medicine is being tried at the hospital. (Where?)
