Today the organization which unites and managers the railways of Ukraine "Ukrzaliznitsya" consists of six main lines. (Donetska, Lvivska, Pivdenna, Pivdenno-Zahidna, Prudiprovska, Odeska) which unite all regions of Ukraine. About 40 thousand specialists operate 30300 km of railroad track. Every year half a million passengers in 8429 carriages leave from 1614 railway stations. Every year about 180 thousand freight carriages transport more then 300 mln tones of freight. The Railway of Ukraine takes the 4th place after the railways of China, Russia and India. The railways of Ukraine interact with the railways of 7 neighboring countries. Though the territory of Ukraine there pass three international railway transport corridors.

1996 is the year when the Constitution of Ukraine was adopted in this year there was adopted the law about "The Railway Transport" of Ukraine.

The law determines main economic and financial principles, normative documents of the organization, working the cases of emergency, guarding of freights etc.

The most important railways of Ukraine: Kyiv - Kozyatin - Lviv, Kozyatin - Zhmerinka - Odessa, Kyiv - Konotop - Shostka, Kyiv - Poltava - Kharkiv - Debaltseve, Krivoy Rog - Dnipropetrovsk - Donetsk, Kharkiv - Dnepropetrovsk - Kiev - Simferopol - Sevastopol, Lviv - Mukachevo - Chop and others.

Major junctions with the developed station management are Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Fast, Debaltsevo and others. The main goods transported due to the railway are building materials, coal and ores, especially iron, agricultural products, machines, tools, chemical goods etc. The Railway Transport of Ukraine subordinated to the State Administration of Railway Transport of Ukraine. Major problem for Ukraine in its integration into the single European rail system is narrowing the width of the Ukrainian railway (1524 mm) to the European standard (1435 mm) as in neighboring Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania. Now on the border with these states are complex systems of transfer of rolling stock trains from track to track, which significantly reduces the efficiency of railway transport, in particular in time
