Metro in Kiev could appear after London. It is found out that they offered to go deep under ground in 1884 in Kiev . Another real possibility of building underground in Kiev appeared in September 1916, when the mayor asked Chairman of the Kiev branch of the Russian-American Chamber of Commerce to give the proposals to improve the transportation in the city. Now the total length of subway lines located on them with the 45 th station is 58.7 km. At last the Great building of age in Kyiv started. Daily hundreds of people were eager to take part in the project. Timber, bitumen, cement, iron , steel, granite, marble, pumps, escalators and others like that were transported to the capital. Over three hundred only the Ukrainian enterprises performed their workers for this construction. And how many were from “brotherly republics”! Under the earth and on its surface not on a day works were not stopped, hundreds of units of equipment were involved. Passing of tunnels was accompanied permanent complications. However many specialists were joined to the project and no difficulties could stop them. Creative ideas, original decisions of problems, practical suggestions, gave birth the new Project of Age. In summer in 1949 the young collective of Metrostroi pawned the first mines, and first zboyka (connection of tunnels) took a place .At the begining of 1958 year a contest was declared on the best projects of the stations. The representatives of public organizations of city, academies of building and architecture of the USSR and UKRAINE, sculptors, artists, writers, leaders of ” Golovtunel'budu”, “Metrodipromransu” and “Kyivmetrobudu”. The exhibition of collective projects was opened in July of that year, where 80 works were presented. From them it was chosen five the best .
