XIII. Give the literary translation of the extract: p. 28. “I thought, Mr. Wigg ... – I must see a doctor”

XIV. Agree or disagree with the following statements. Use the words from Appendix 1.

  1. When Mary Poppins and the kids came to her uncle he was away.

  2. Mary’s uncle’s name was Mr. Wigg because he wore a wig.

  3. Listening to the kids’ questions Mary Poppins just laughed.

  1. Write out all the words describing emotions of the characters. Use them fulfilling the next tasks.

  2. Give a character sketch of the following heroes:

  • Mary Poppins;

  • Mr. Wigg;

  • Miss Persimmon.

  1. Make up dialogues between:

  • The children looking forward to paying a visit to Mr. Wigg;

  • Mr. Wigg and Miss Persimmon discussing his floating in the air;

  • The children discussing their visit to Mr. Wigg.

Use the phrases from Appendix 3.

  1. Give the retelling of the text as if you were:

V. Write out all the words denoting dogs’ actions and behavior and use them in the sentences of your own.

VI. Explain the use of tenses in the following phrases.

  1. Even Admiral Boom had been known to envy Miss Lark her wonderful house…

  2. Once the Baker made a mistake … and Miss Lark was so angry that she said she wouldn’t have any more bread ever.

  3. And, if you didn’t know, you would think that Andrew must be a little boy.

  4. People used to laugh heartily when they saw Andrew…

  5. “Pooh!” said Michael, as they were watching Andrew one day…

  6. He would have given half his fortune, if he had one, for a nice piece of raw, red meat…

  7. Whenever there was a fight in the road he would be sure to be in the thick of it: he was always getting into trouble with the Postman or the Policeman.

  8. Miss Lark’s two maids were rushing wildly about the garden looking under bushes and up into the trees as people do who have lost their most valuable possession.

  9. But I warn you, Andrew, if you catch your death of cold – don’t blame me!
