2. Read and translate the text. Travelling by air

A few hundred years ago the main forms of transport were walking or riding a horse, camel or elephant, depending on where people lived.

Nowadays, in most countries long journeys involve some form of motorized transport. People today tend to travel longer distances, more often and at much higher speeds. As a result today we live in a global economy, which means long-distance trips and high mobility.

There are great advantages in this, but there is a down side too. More travel has also resulted in noise and air pollution, increased stress and damages to local environments and the larger ecosystem.

In fact airplane travel is the fastest, more convenient means of travelling, because it saves our time and sometimes money. For instance, in the USA, if you travel from east coast to the west by air jet, it results cheaper for you than to travel by train.

Each year, millions passengers worldwide rely on different air companies such as British Airways, Aeroflot, Iberia and others to help make their journeys smooth ones. With unsurpassed global capabilities and a firm commitment to safety and security, people can today rest assured that they have carefully and thoroughly planned every element of their journey to help reduce the stresses of travel.

It is not a secret that many people want to reach their destinations as quickly as possible, especially if they are in a great hurry. Of course, in this case the best way is to fly. The only thing you need to do in this situation is to book tickets in advance.

Before we start our air travel we try to find flight itineraries of companies available. We can use related online travel services 24 hours a day using Internet. All people, with no exceptions, try to find favourable prices for tickets.

On the appointed day one takes a taxi and goes to the airport. At the airport you pass checkpoints where one can check-in, weight the baggage.

Nowadays, especially after the 11th of September heightened security measures have increased the time needed at the airport and the variety of security measures people may encounter at airport. All passengers should be sure to have a valid passport and any required visas together with all tickets, boarding pass, and ID within easy reach.

When you pass checkpoints you should remember that only ticketed passengers are allowed beyond the security checkpoints and that all electronic items, such as laptops and mo-bile phones, will be subjected to additional screening. Have passed all checking procedures, you should wait for your flight. When your flight is announced you should board it. In this case you go to the departure gate, get in the bus, which takes you to your plane. You should remember that in most western airports boarding takes places directly through the departure gate.

When you are in, you can see a large streamline compartment which can be divided into several sections according to the class. You can travel in business or economy class, for example. Economy class is less expensive.

Over the years, companies involved in air traffic have accumulated a great deal of knowledge and experience about the effects of air travel on the body. That is why they recommend people not to sit still for too long and when it is convenient, get up and move about the cabin and stretch their arms and legs every so often, eat a light meal and drink plenty of water, go easy on alcohol, coffee and tea. It is also advisable to have the address and phone number of your country's embassy, or consulate for each country you plan to visit.
