III. B. Would you prefer Ты предпочитаешь?

I would rather я предпочитаю

I would prefer to watch TV rather than read books. Я предпочел бы смотреть телевизор, а не читать книги.

I would rather stay at home. Я предпочитаю остаться дома.

I’d rather not go out this evening if you don’t mind. Если ты не возражаешь, я бы предпочел остаться дома сегодня вечером.

He’d rather buy a car than rent it. Он предпочитает купить автомобиль, а не брать его на прокат.

I’d rather you cooked the dinner now. Я бы предпочел, чтобы ты сейчас приготовил обед.

III. C. Translate the sentences

IV. A. Make up sentences with a) prefer b) would rather

a) drive a car / travel by train – I prefer driving a car to travelling by train.

IV. B. Choose the correct variant

IV. C. Practise the dialogue

Travel agent: Can I help you?

Mr Brown: We’d like to arrange our holidays.

Travel agent: Have you got anything special in mind?

Mr Brown: We are thinking of visiting Italy or Spain.

Mr Brown: That sounds very reasonable, but isn’t it a crowded place in summer?

Travel agent: This hotel is in a small

train,nonstop all the way.

Mrs Brown: What about the insurance?

Travel agent: It’s included in the price.

Mr Brown: Certainly.

b) - Could you book me a flight to Pskov in a couple of days?

- Certainly, Sir. Would you prefer first class, business or economy class?

- Business class, please. Do you happen to know when the flights are?

- There’s a morning and an evening flight, Sir. Which do you prefer?

- I’d rather have a morning flight if possible.

- I’ll call up and see what they can offer.
