One of the best selling daily newspapers in Saint Petersburg is ‘Komsomolskaya Pravda’.The newspaper was founded in and has changed a lot over the last 20 years. It has a circulation of 600 000 and it is popular with readers of various age groups. Its front page often has a photo and an article about a pop star or a film star or any other celebrity. It also publishes articles about politics, economy and sports news. On Fridays you can buy a special supplement with a TV programme schedule or devote your weekend to doing crosswords or reading ads.

One of the most popular local newspapers is ‘Nevskoye Vremya. Readers who are interested in what’s happening in Saint Petersburg can’t do without it. It keeps readers informed about local politics, environmental problems and cultural events. It also publishes analytical reviews on international affairs.

Doctor Have you eaten anything hard lately?

Ahmed: My parents went to the local shops: a baker’s, a grocer’s or a butcher’s. Now we have a big supermarket near here. I think it’s more convenient to buy here and they have more parking facilities. The supermarket ‘s open longer hours and every day.

Barbara: I prefer the local shops in the neighbourhood . The shop assistants are friendlier and more personal. They know most of those who have lived here for a long time. You can even have a small talk with them.

Charles: The Internet is the place where I can shop at any time I need. I don’t have to go to the shop at all. They will deliver everything to my house. It’s much cheaper than anywhere else.

Toni: I go to the street market. I’m absolutely sure about the quality of food there, meat, milk and vegetables in particular. I know that they are brought from a local farm and not from Spain, Poland and India.

Sylvia: I really adore buying in our shopping centre. I’ve been doing shopping here since it was built in 2005. You can find any department here and buy everything you’d like. If you are tired you can drop into any of the numerous cafes and taste different cuisines offered. I like it that all the shopping and entertainment facilities are combined all in one here.
