2,000,000 million cu m of Tyumen gas is the total amount of gas extracted in Tyumen. The development of Siberian deposits enabled our country to lead the world in gas extraction. Today more than 1,000 million cu m are extracted there every day.

Tyumen gas is supplied to the Urals, the central districts of Russia, Byelorussia, the Ukraine and European countries through pipelines.

Gas extraction in Russia will develop in the future primarily owing to the north of West Siberia. Recently a new deposit has been put into operation there.

Another large system of seven pipelines has been built there. It transports gas from the new deposits of northern Tyumen, including an export pipeline which supplies European countries with gas.

Tyumen gas is very expensive because gas fields are developed in the remote climatic conditions. Nevertheless, Russia undertakes these expenses to supply its economy and that of other countries, with fuel and raw materials.

18. Прослушайте и прочитайте диалог. Затем воспроизведите его:

Student: We are interested in Russia’s oil and gas potential and we are going to ask you some questions.

Teacher: All right. You may put questions to me and I’ll try to answer them.

Student: Well, what can you say about oil and gas deposits in Russia?

Teacher: As far as I know our country has unique oil and gas deposits. New discoveries come thick and fast.

Student: Where are the largest of them located?

Teacher: You see, the largest have been those of West Siberian gas field, mainly in the Tyumen region, in the Komi Republic and near Orenburg.

Student: By the way, don’t you know the total length of our trunk pipelines?

Teacher: In my opinion it has grown almost 60-fold during the past years and today exceeds the entire West European network of gas pipelines.

Student: Please, excuse me for asking you questions. But it is all very interesting. I know about Russia’s oil and gas potential now much better than before. Thank you very much.
