2.9 Лекция 8. Инфинитив (the Infinitive)
2.9.1 Общие сведения
Инфинитив это неличная форма глагола, которая называет действие, не указывая числа и лица, и отвечает на вопросы что делать? что сделать?
Инфинитив имеет простую и сложные формы. Простая форма инфинитива является первой основной формой глагола, например
to do, to be
Отрицательная форма инфинитива образуется при помощи частицы not
not to do, not to be
Как правило, инфинитив имеет формальный признак – частицу to, но в ряде случаев инфинитив употребляется без частицы to.
Без частицы to инфинитив употребляется:
1. после модальных глаголов can, could, may, might, must, should
I must keep this secret. – Я должен держать это в секрете.
Can you call me back in 5 or 10 minutes?
2. после глагола let в значении “позволять”
Let him speak.
3. после глаголов make и have в значении “заставлять”. (Однако если глагол make употреблен в страдательном залоге (Passive), то следующий за ним инфинитив должен иметь при себе частицу to).
What made you come so early?
I like him because he makes me laugh.
I'll have Hudson show you to your room.
4. в конструкциях had better, would rather, (would и had в этих конструкциях может быть сокращено до ‘d).
You'd better leave it as it is.
“I think you'd better ask her.” – “I'd rather not.”
5. в кратких вопросах после Why...? Why not...?
Why worry? You can't do anything about it.
Why not go there together?
6. после глаголов восприятия, таких как see, hear, feel, notice, observe в объектном инфинитивном обороте
I saw him cross the street.
2.9.2 Формы инфинитива и их употребление

Инфинитив может выражать характер действия (длительность или завершенность) и имеет залог.
Инфинитив в форме ACTIVE показывает, что действие, выраженное инфинитивом, лицо или предмет совершает сам.
Инфинитив в форме PASSIVE показывает, что действие, выраженное инфинитивом, совершается над лицом или предметом.
Инфинитив в форме Simple выражает действие, одновременное действию, выраженному глаголом-сказуемым.
Инфинитив в форме Continuous выражает действие длительного характера, одновременное действию, выраженному глаголом-сказуемым.
Инфинитив в форме Perfect выражает действие, предшествующие действию, выраженному глаголом-сказуемым.
Инфинитив в форме Perfect Continuous показывает действие, которое предшествовало действию, выраженному глаголом-сказуемым, и длилось какой-то период.
2.9.3 Функции инфинитива
Инфинитив употребляется в функции:
1. подлежащего
To learn a second language is difficult. = It I difficult to learn a second language.
2. Части сказуемого
а) составного именного
The aim of his research is to find out all the necessary data.
b) составного глагольного
It may rain tonight.
3. дополнения
I hope to see you soon.
She asked me to wait a little.
I want you to come (сложное дополнение Complex-Object)
4. определения
There is every reason to believe that their project will be a success.
She gave me a few books to read.
The bridge to be constructed in this are will be the biggest one in the
country.
5. обстоятельства
a) цели
To get there on time we had to leave early. = We had to leave early to get
there on time.
В этой функции перед инфинитивом часто употребляются союзы in order, so as чтобы, для того, чтобы
We had to leave early in order (so as) to get there on time.
b) действия, последовавшего за другим действием
He came home to find out that his friends had arranged a surprise birthday party for him
.
2.9.5 Объектный инфинитивный оборот (Complex Object)
Объектный инфинитивный оборот состоит из двух элементов: существительного в общем падеже или местоимения в объектном падеже и инфинитива.
I would like Alex to come.
I would like him to come.
В английском предложении объектный инфинитивный оборот, например, him to come выполняет функцию сложного дополнения. На русский язык этот оборот переводится полным придаточным предложением с подлежащим и сказуемым и с союзами что, чтобы, как:
Я бы хотел, чтобы он пришел.
Everyone wanted him to win the competition.
I expect the contract to be signed tomorrow.
I consider him (to be) a real computer expert.
We know him to have graduated from the university three years ago.
После глаголов, выражающих восприятие посредством органов чувств to see, to watch, to observe, to notice, to loom at, listen to, to hear, to feel, to smell а также глаголов make, have, let инфинитив в объектном инфинитивном обороте употребляется без частицы to.
I heard a famous rock star sing at the concert last night.
I like to listen to the birds sing in the morning.
She let me borrow her book.
2.9.6 Субъектный инфинитивный оборот (Complex Subject)
Субъектный инфинитивный оборот состоит из двух элементов: существительного или местоимения в общем падеже и инфинитива. В английском предложении субъектный инфинитивный оборот, например, They … to know выполняет функцию сложного подлежащего.
They are said to know English very well.
На русский язык перевод таких предложений надо начинать со сказуемого, например, are said, а сам субъектный инфинитивный оборот переводится придаточным предложением с подлежащим и сказуемым и с союзом что.
Говорят, что они знают английский язык очень хорошо.
Субъектный инфинитивный оборот употребляется тогда, когда сказуемое выражено следующими глаголами в страдательном залоге:
to say
to state
to report
to announce
to believe
to suppose
to think
to expect
to know
to understand
to consider
to assume
to see
to hear и др. ,
а также тогда, когда сказуемое выражено следующими глаголами в активном залоге
to seem
to appear
to prove
to turn out
to happen
I happened to be there at that time.
She seemed to know everybody there.
The weather appears to be improving.
The expedition was reported to have reached the North Pole.
