Занятие 13

Тема 2.2. Основная проблематика специальности «Социальная работа».

Продолжительность занятия: 2 часа.

Цель: Овладеть активной лексикой и основными лексико-грамматическими конструкциями, необходимыми и достаточными для построения монологических и диалогических высказываний.

Задачи:

  1. ознакомить с активной лексикой и тренировать ее

  2. тренировать грамматические модели

  3. тренировка навыков изучающего и информативного чтения, устного высказывания

Этапы занятий и рекомендуемая продолжительность тренировки видов речевой деятельности:

  1. Проверка домашнего задания. Направлено на формирование компетенции (20 мин).

  2. Работа над грамматическим материалом: повторение и закрепление употребления Continuous Passive. Направлена на развитие компетенции (25 мин).

Task 1. Answer the following questions.

a) use Present Continuous Passive in your answers.

Example: What’s going on in this hall? (to hold a conference) – A conference is being held there.

1. What’s going on in the operating room? (to operate a patient). 2. What’s going on in the lecture hall? (to present a lecture). 3. What’s going on in the doctor’s office? (to examine a patient). 4. What’s going on in the X-ray room? (to X-ray the patient’s chest). 5. What’s going on in classroom 5? (to examine the students). 6. What’s going on in this room? (to discuss an pressing issue). 7. What’s going on in the library? (to search for interesting articles). 8. What’s going on in the lobby? (to introduce a new student). 9. What’s going on in your head? (to think over a new plan). 10. What’s going on in the classroom? (to explain a new rule).

b) use Past Continuous Passive in your answers.

1. What problem was being discussed when the teacher came in? 2. Who was being consulted when the telephone rang? 3. Who was being injected when the lights went off? 4. What test was being done when the patient fainted? 5. Whose presentation was being listened to when the chairman came out? 6. What technique was being described when the speaker was interrupted? 7. Who was being given a blood transfusion when the doctor came in? 8. Whose ward was being aired at lunch time? 9. Who was being wheeled to the operating room when we entered?

Task 1. Read and translate the text “Working with Terminally Ill clients”.

Task 2. Read this definition of what being empathic/empathy means.

Read the phrases from the list below which are typical of empathic behaviour. Match them to the sentences which might initiate them.

Empathy the capacity to identify and acknowledge the feelings that are being experienced by another person.

1) I can hear that you are angry.

2) You seem to be feeling sad.

3) I can understand how you might feel that way.

4) Under the circumstances, feeling that way makes a lot of sense.

5) Well, I’m sure it wasn’t that bad

6) Severe pain can be pretty frightening.

e) I can’t stand the thought of being a burden to my family.

Task 3. Complete the questions using proper endings. Ask them to your partner.

Его слова могут еще больше ее расстроить. 6. О пожилых людях хорошо заботятся в этом доме престарелых. 7. Социальные работники стараются полностью удовлетворить потребности своих клиентов. 8. Изменения в ее внешности вызывали у нее сильную озабоченность. 9. Какой уход обычно предоставляют сиделки больными с неизлечимыми заболеваниями? 10. Необходимо принимать всерьез чувства умирающих людей. 11. Как социальный работник может распознать/установить эмоции пациента? 12. Многие пациенты успокаиваются, когда сиделки держат их за руку или осторожно дотрагиваются до их руки. 13. Она поощряла своего супруга к тому, чтобы он вступил в новые отношения и не оставался один. 14. Вселяет неуверенность, когда лица, ухаживающие за умирающим, берут на себя все его обязанности/работу. 15. Люди становятся уверенными, когда они видят собственные качества в своем потомстве.

Task 6. a) List the typical needs of dying persons and describe each of them. Describe the emotions they are likely to express.

b) List the primary dimensions of care for dying persons and describe each of them. What are the effective ways of dealing with negative emotions?
