Meaning/use

Example

will+ base form

  1. decisions made at the moment of speaking;

  2. predictions, often with I believe, expect, hope, think, etc.;

  3. offers or willingness;

  1. requests;

  2. firm intentions, promises;

  3. threats;

  1. facts about the future;

  1. something we believe will happen.

  1. OK, I'll see you this evening at nine.

  2. I think it will be a difficult game.

  1. I'll give you a lift if you like.

  2. All right. I'll water the flowers.

  4. I'll love you forever.

  5. I won't speak to you ever again!

be going to + base form

  1. intentions, plans;

  1. something in the future because of information in the present;

  2. predictions, especially when there is evidence.
