Fire safety in the kitchen

Make sure someone is always in the kitchen whenever the stove is on. Why? A child or a pet can knock something off or onto the stove and get burned or start a fire. In addition (до того ж), the heat from a stove, a pot or a pan on a burner саn ignite a blaze.

You can make your kitchen safer by turning the pots in such a way that the handles don’t stick out over the edge. It helps you not to knock them off the stove and your children will not be able to reach up and take one.

Another way to prevent kitchen fires is to keep your stove clean. Accumulations of dirt and grease can help the stove catch a fire.

If grease in a pan catches fire, carefully slide a lid over the pan to smother the flames, then turn off the burner. If that doesn’t put out the blaze, use baking soda or an ABC extinguisher to smother the flames. Water will cause the grease to scatter the flames to the adjacent areas. If an extinguisher doesn’t do the job or the blaze gets too big, get out of your home as quickly as possible and then call the fire department.
