Модальные глаголы
Это глаголы, выражающие отношение к действию, а не само действие.
can – уметь, мочь |
He can speak English – Он умеет говорить по-английски |
may - можно |

must - должен |
He must speak English – Он должен говорить по-английски |
В настоящем времени они окончания «-s» не имеют!

2) should = ought to – следует, надо (совет) To get to the airtport you should take a taxi |
3) have to – должен в силу внешних обстоятельств It’s raining, I have to take my umbrella | |
4) to be allowed to – синоним may в значении (а) - разрешение They are allowed to use dictionaries |
4) be to – должен (по плану, по расписанию) The students are to take exams in January and June |
