Indirect (reported) Question

Косвенный вопрос

He said: “Tom, where are you going?” – Он спросил: «Том, куда ты идешь?»

She said: “Does Ann like this film?” – Она спросила: «Нравится ли Анне этот фильм?».

He asked Tom where he was going – Он спросил Тома куда он идет

She asked if (whether) Ann liked that film – Она спросила, понравился ли Анне этот фильм.

При построении косвенного вопроса используется слово asked, соблюдается правило согласования времен и делаются все необходимые замены слов. Используется прямой порядок слов, т.е. глагол становится после подлежащего. Если есть вопросительное слово, оно стоит перед подлежащим, а если его нет – перед подлежащим ставится слово if или whether (-ли):

They said: “Where is the airport?” – They asked where the airport was

He asked: “How old is the baby?” – He asked how old the baby was

They said: “Is it raining now?” – They asked if it was raining then (at that time).
