IX. Points for discussion.
How do people become addicted?
What is the cost of addiction?
Is the abuser’s brain affected anyhow? What happens to the circuit if one injects, inhales or swallows an addictive drug?
What was the ultimate goal of the conducted experiments (patterned on Pavlov’s)?
What is the biological basis of addiction, tolerance, withdrawal and relapse, according to the journalist?
Why is relapse so easy? Is it possible not to backslide, nevertheless?
Do you agree that genes can either enhance or reduce the risk of addiction?
How would you formulate the author’s main thesis?
