" My First Impressions were …"

Now I know FESTU stands for the Far East State Transportation University. It is the name of one of the oldest public technical institutions in the Far East. It was founded in 1939 as the Khabarovsk Railway Engineering Institute.

If I had to describe my first impressions of the University using only three words I should choose huge, magnificent and confident. Its size is really huge. On a single campus there are numerous buildings, residential houses for the teaching staff, the club, the polyclinic, the workshops, the canteen, some sports facilities and dormitories (hostels for students’ accommodation). Magnificent are its spacious auditoriums, well-equipped laboratories, modern computing centres, rich libraries and reading halls. Confident look and are its professors and students who master humanities, exact, natural and social sciences, do research, make experiments, have practical training, submit term papers, pursue scientific degrees, become skilled professionals.

My dream, to enter FESTU, has become true. Now I’m a first-year student of the Power Engineering Department. I like my hectic working days here. My schedule (timetable) with its lectures, consultations, seminars and practical classes leaves almost no time for fun. But I don’t feel sorry for that. There are still weekends to enjoy meeting friends, going to the cinema or discos, reading books and going in for sports.

The University offers the wide range of career opportunities. It trains, develops and promotes young people on their abilities. It helps them become determined, get excellent interpersonal and communication skills. In their turn, students need a strong analytical mind and confidence to make critical decisions as well as the drive and self-discipline to take on growing responsibilities and demanding credit tests and exams. I am proud of my Alma Mater.
