Using Frequency Adverbs

Adverbs of frequency (often, always, usually, sometimes, etc.) are placed before main verbs but after auxiliary / modal verbs (be, have, can, will, must, shall, etc.).

  • They seldom make mistakes.

  • He often goes to the theatre.

  • She always brushes her teeth after meals.

  • He is rarely late.

  • Tom has never been to Australia.

  • They will often visit us.

Some frequency adverbs can also come at the beginning or at the end of a sentence. For example:

  • I sometimes get up at seven.

  • Sometimes I get up at seven.

  • I get up at seven sometimes.
