Functions of the Verb to be

Exercise 34

The verb to be can be notional, auxiliary, linking and modal (be to). Name the function of the verb to be in the following sentences.

Example:

  1. I’m writing a letter.

Consider the predicate in the following sentences. Distinguish between the auxiliary, linking, modal and full notional status of their finite verb. Translate into Russian.
