§3. Страдательный залог (Passive Voice)
Залог показывает, является ли лицо или предмет, выраженный существительным или местоимением в функции подлежащего, деятелем или испытывает на себе чье-либо воздействие. Это значение залога выражается в форме глагола.
Активный (действительный) залог (the Active Voice) показывает, что лицо или предмет, обозначенный подлежащим, исполняет действие, которое называет сказуемое.
People consume different goods . Люди потребляют разные товары.
Economists study the ideas of Adam Smith for two centuries. Экономисты изучают идеи Адама Смита на протяжении двух веков.
Пассивный залог показывает, что действие глагола-сказуемого направлено на лицо или предмет, выраженный существительным или местоимением в функции подлежащего.
Если подлежащее является объектом действия, то сказуемое стоит в форме страдательного залога.
Страдательный залог (the Passive Voice) описывает то, что произошло с лицом или предметом, обозначенным подлежащим.
The ideas of Adam Smith are studied by economists for two centuries. Идеи Адама Смита изучаются экономистами на протяжении двух веков.
Страдательный залог образуется при помощи соответствующей видовременной формы глагола to be (вспомогательный глагол) и формы причастия прошедшего времени (Participle II) смыслового глагола.
Prices are determined by supply and demand. Цены определяются спросом и предложением.
В страдательном залоге употребляются только те глаголы, которые могут иметь прямое дополнение, т.е., переходные глаголы.

Времена страдательного залога употребляются по тем же правилам, что и времена действительного залога.
Страдательный залог употребляется тогда,
1) когда нет необходимости сообщать, кто или что именно совершил(о) действие, поскольку это является очевидным:
The streets are swept every day. Улицы подметают каждый день.
2) когда мы не знаем или забыли, кто совершил действие:
John was offered a job. Джону предложили работу.
3) когда подлежащее не определяется четко, например, при помощи слов people, someone, one, somebody:
He is suspected of stealing.( People suspect him of stealing.) Его подозревают в воровстве.
This kind of advertisement is seen everywhere. (One sees this kind of advertisement everywhere.) Этот вид рекламы можно увидеть везде.
4) когда нас более интересует действие или событие, чем тот, кто его совершил:
A new supermarket is being built. Строится новы супермаркет.
The house next door has been bought (by Mr. Smith). Соседний дом купили. (Это сделал господин Смит.)
Однако, если мы хотим подчеркнуть, что именно господин Смит купил этот дом, необходимо употребить действительный залог:
Mr. Smith has bought the house next door. Господин Смит купил соседний дом.
В предложении с Passive Voice предмет или лицо, производящее действие может не указываться, если он неизвестен или эта информация не является важной с точки зрения содержания данного предложения. Если же надо указать, кем (или чем) именно было совершено действие, то соответствующее имя существительное или местоимение вводятся предлогами by (для обозначения субъекта действия или действующей силы) и with (для обозначения орудия действия).
В этом случае предлоги by, with самостоятельного значения не имеют, а существительные или местоимения, следующие за ними, переводятся на русский язык существительными или местоимениями в творительном падеже.
These products have been designed by a special team.. Эти товары разрабатывались специальной группой.
Страдательный залог используется и с модальными глаголами. В этом случае в форме страдательного залога ставится инфинитив:
This task has to be done right now. Это задание нужно сделать сейчас.
This shop must be closed. Магазин должен быть закрыт.
Страдательный залог в английском языке используется чаще, чем в русском языке, т.к. не только прямое дополнение, но и косвенное и предложное могут быть подлежащим в настоящем предложении. Некоторые глаголы имеют два дополнения:
I gave Mary a bad advice about selecting courses. Я дал Мэри плохой совет относительно выбора курсов.
В таком случае можно образовать два предложения в страдательном залоге:
Mary was given a bad advice about selecting courses. Мэри дали плохой совет относительно выбора курсов.
A bad advice about selecting courses was given to Mary. Плохой совет относительно выбора курсов был дан Мэри.
К глаголам подобного типа относятся: to ask, to give, to offer, to lend, to pay, to promise, to show, to sell, to teach, to throw, to tell, to send. Обычно при образовании от них страдательного залога данные предложения начинаются с указания на лицо:
I was told the truth.
На русский язык страдательный залог переводится:
1. Возвратным глаголом (глагол, оканчивающийся на -ся, -сь):
A lot of letters and documents are typed in the office every day. Каждый день в офисе печатается много документов.
2. Глаголом «быть» в прошедшем или будущем времени и краткой формой причастия:
Yesterday an important contract was signed. Вчера был подписан важный контракт.
3. Неопределенно-личным предложением:
Under the contract a new project will be constructed next year. Согласно контракта новый проект будет осуществляться в следующем году.
