1. Yukon

A. The westernmost of Canada'sprovincesand is known for its natural beauty, as reflected in itsLatinmotto,Splendor sine occasu ("Splendour without Diminishment"). In 1871, it became the sixth province of Canada. It is bordered by thePacific Oceanon the west, by theU.S. stateof Alaska on the northwest, and to the north by theYukonand theNorthwest Territories, on the east by the province ofAlberta, and on the south by the U.S. states ofWashington,Idaho, andMontana.

Its capital is Victoria, located at the southeastern tip of Vancouver Island. The province's most populous city is Vancouver.

The province's name comes from theRiver, whose name means "swift flowing river". It is also one of only two provinces that areland-locked, the other being Alberta.

The capital of Ontario is Toronto,Canada's most populous cityand metropolitan area.Ottawa, the capital of Canada, is located in Ontario as well. The province takes its name from one of Great Lakes.

D. The westernmost and smallest of Canada's three federalterritories. It was named after theRiver. The word means "Great River". The territory's capital isWhitehorse. The territory was created in 1898.

The territory's climate is Arctic and subarctic, resulting in long cold winters, short summers, and little precipitation. At 5,959 metres (19,551 ft), Mount Logan, inKluane National Park and Reserve, is the highest mountain in Canada and the second highest ofNorth America(afterMount McKinleyin theU.S. stateofAlaska).
