Тема: Revision. The use of Adjectives as Attributes

What is Oxymoron?

Мета: – повторити і узагальнити граматичний матеріал з теми “Прикметники у функції

означення” та вживання структури “as…..as”;

– практикувати учнів у читанні та усному мовленні з вивченої теми;

– ознайомити та навчити учнів вживати в усному мовленні прикметники

стилістичної групи oxymoron;

– розвивати аудитивну пам'ять, елементи аналізу та самоаналізу, логічне

мислення

а) Виконання вправи 1 стор.136 – “FromVira`sDiary” читання

тексту з повним охопленням змісту прочитаного і відповіді на

питання

b) Вправа 2 стор.136: study the table t hat shows the use of adjectives

then comment on the pictures given on the next page using these

adjectives.

• Isn`t the toy expensive ? • Isn`t the spider horrible?.

• Isn`t the boy nice ? • Isn`t the man handsome?

• Isn`t the monkey funny?

Try to make up examples of your own using just the same pattern:

c) Виконання вправи 3 стор 137 : grammar construction ``as …as``

How many leginning and ends of as…as can you put together?

as cold as ice as wise as an owl

as old as the hills as busy as bee

as black as night as free as a bird

d) Hand-outs: Oxymoron is a combination of two words (mostly an adjective

and a noun ) in which the meanings of the two clash, being opposite in sense,

for example:

sweet sorrow proud humility deafening silence

nice rascal peopled desert pleasantly ugly

Let`s take the following example from O. Henry`s story “ The Duel”

in which one of the heroes describes his attitude towards New York:

“I despise its vastness and power. It has the poorest millionaires,

the littlest great men, the haughtiest beggars, the plainest beauties,

the lowest skyscrapers, the dolefulest pleasures of any town I ever saw.”

Тема: Revision. Customs and Manners. Superstitions

Subordinate Conditional Clauses I

Мета: – повторити і узагальнити лексико-граматичний матеріал по темі

“CustomsandManners”

– практикувати учнів в аудіюванні, читанні, усному та писемному мовленні;

– навчити учнів вживати граматичні структури ConditionalsІ ;

– розвивати уяву, спостережливість, мовну здогадку, елементи креативного

мислення

Хід уроку

1 Організація клас. Привітання.

a) Аудіювання запису (завдання 41 стор.166) і виконання вправи 4 стор 137.

Listen, read and say what’s different in the texts. Discuss the text:

Cars - buses under the buildings - in the buildings

Further - faster cat – train cars - bikes

theaters - cinemas house - cinema

banks - schools

b) Вправа 7 стор.138-139: read the descriptions of two people and choose a hobby for each

of them from the list and explain your choice

c) Вправа 8 стор.139: do the quiz and learn more about some interesting facts from the history of food.

d) Pair work.. Many people like to wear jeans. Can you decide which group of people wears jeans more often? Сompare your answers with other pairs:

• boys or girls • poor people or rich people

• actors or politicians • city people or country people

• young people or old people • children or parents

What clothes are the most popular with each of these groups? ( вправа 9 а/bстор.139)

6. вправа 10 стор. 139:In every country there are some things that people strongly believe. Sometimes they can be true but sometimes not. Such things are called superstitions. Which of these English superstitions are true for your country? What other superstitions do you know? What is your attitude towards superstitions?

• If you blow all the candles on your birthday cake you’ll get a wish.

• If you eat carrots you’ll be able to see in the dark.

• If you see a black cat you’ll have luck.

• If you eat a lot of fish you’ll become more intelligent.

g) Вправа 12 стор. 140: Customs and manners differ from country to country. Are the following statements true in your country? Do you know whether they are true in England? Discuss them in groups.
