Основная задача перевода - это максимально точная передача смысла оригинала средствами языка перевода. Из этого следует, что переводчик, будучи «пленником» содержательной части, относительно свободен в выборе переводческих средств, обеспечивающих достижение главной цели – адекватности перевода.
Существует множество приемов, включая лексические трансформации, которые позволят точно и полно передать содержание оригинала средствами другого языка.
§1 Перевод некоторых категорий слов
1.1 Термины
Терминами называют точные обозначения понятий в определенной области человеческой деятельности (науке, экономике, технике, искусстве и др.). Термины, как правило, имеют точное соответствие в других языках, т.е. эквивалентный перевод (economic growth – экономический рост). В случае, если в языке перевода нет соответствующего слова, то прибегают к заимствованию (franchise – франшиза) или описательному переводу (majority stake – контрольный пакет акций). Иногда даже прижившиеся в русском языке заимствования могут переводиться различными способами в зависимости от контекста. Например, термин leasing – лизинг, понятный для специалистов, можно перевести как долгосрочная аренда для широкого читателя, а также в определенном контексте как прокат (например, контейнеров).
1.2 Сложные слова
Сложными называют слова, составленные из двух и более слов или их основ. Сложные слова пишутся слитно, а также через дефис (сложносоставные слова). Такие слова могут переводиться путем калькирования, причем многие из них вошли в общий и специальный словарный фонд русского языка. Например, небоскреб – sky-scraper; офшорный – off-shore; транснациональный – transnational. Но чаще сложные слова переводятся описательным образом. Например, trustbuster – официальное лицо, следящее за соблюдением антимонопольного законодательства; full-timer – штатный сотрудник, работающий на полную ставку; bookkeeping – бухгалтерский учет; shortshipment – недопоставка товара.
1.3 Неологизмы
Перевод неологизмов – новых, «авторских» слов, которые отражают новейшие понятия и реалии, являются очень трудной задачей. Одни неологизмы живут недолго, украсив лишь однажды, скажем, заголовок статьи (напр., «Johannesburgers vs Hamburgers»), в то время как другие со временем входят в словарный состав языка. Например, слово gimmick – надувательство, махинация, происхождение которого точно неизвестно, долгое время не фиксировалось в словарях, являясь неологизмом, а теперь широко используется в значении попытки сбыть что-либо (товар) с помощью уловок.
Неологизмы образуются разными способами:
- придание словам новых значений (farming out – субподряд в любых, а не только в с/х отраслях; bubble – искусственно созданный рост на рынке или в экономике без объективных оснований, часто оканчивающийся спадом; «мыльный пузырь»);
- создание новых слов по законам словообразования (customization – изготовление продукции под требования индивидуального заказчика; know-how – «ноу-хау», технология; hi-tech - «хай-тэк», высокотехнологичный; reaganomics – рейганомика, экономическая политика президента Рейгана);
- заимствование из других языков (tranche, фр. – транш).
